As part of the implementation of events dedicated to the regional program "Baqytty balalyk shak”, the Health Governancyon the basis of the Aktobe Medical Center, organized a master class on cochlear implantation with participation of foreign specialists.
Cochlear implantation is a method of hearing aids, involving the impact on the inner ear of a system of electrodes, ensuring the perception of sound information through electrical stimulation of the hearing nerve. Cochlear implantation is the most effective, safe and reliable method of medical and pedagogical hearing and speech rehabilitation for adults and children with severe hearing and deafness.
Cochlear implantation is an operation where an active electrode consisting of chains of individual electrodesis inserted, ensuring the transmission of coded acoustic information by acting on the pulses of stored acoustic nerve fibers. To install a cochlear implant, an operation with trepanning of the bones in the ear region with general anesthesia is necessary. Approximate duration of the operation is 1.5-3 hours. Naturally, the patient should not have contraindications for such operations. The implantable part of the cochlear implantation system does not connect the wires to the outer, does not contain batteries, and is designed for trouble-free operation for decades.
On June 28, 2018, otolaryngologist Recep Karamert with a team of audiologists from Turkey (Gazi Üniversitesi, Ankara) conducted three surgical interventions for cochlear pediatric implantation from 2 to 5 y.o., suffering from neuro-sensory hearing loss 4 degrees from birth.Such operations are high-tech medical services and performed mainly in the republican clinics of Astana and Almaty. In addition, specialists from Turkey for further maintenance and adjustment of implants in Aktobe kids provided a special equipment - a programmer. This will greatly facilitate the use of implants and will exclude travels of families of toddlers outside the region to adjust the implant.
Pediatric otorhinolaryngologists and audiologists took an active part in master class, learning from foreign colleagues, assisted in operations. In order to increase the availability of high-tech medical care for children, further activities are planned for the introduction of cochlear implantation operations at the regional level.
